Kristina Zalnieraite, who heads nutrition with Klinio, says their diabetes management team created the holiday recipes after their internal research showed desserts were a major obstacle for patients managing their diabetes.
“Many patients with diabetes assume they can’t have any sweets for the rest of their lives. That’s not true,” Zalnieraite said. “You can have sweets and popular desserts as long as they have the right ingredients. Our nutrition team reimagined the most popular desserts and recreated them with ingredients that were healthier for patients with diabetes.”
A recent Klinio survey of patients with diabetes found carb management and sugar cravings are the top two obstacles for patients trying to manage their diabetes. A separate Klinio survey found “bad eating habits” was the #1 obstacle preventing patients from successfully managing their diabetes.
Diabetes-Friendly Desserts for the Holidays
The holiday dessert recipes have something for everyone, depending on their sweet tooth.
The recipes include detailed instructions on how to cook the desserts from scratch, along with the ingredients needed. It also shows the total calories, total fat, carbohydrates, protein and sugar content for each serving size.
“You don’t need to be a professional baker to make these recipes,” said Zalnieraite. “Our nutrition team created these recipes with simple-to-follow instructions. From setting the right oven temperature to serving the dessert chilled or at-room temperature, this guidebook has it all.
Recipes include low-sugar recipes for cakes, cupcakes, mousse cakes, cookies, ice creams, creme brulee, smoothies and other delights that don’t fall into a specific category, like avocado brownie and chocolate truffles.

The independent organization, Validation Institute, recently validated findings by Kilo Health that found patients with type-2 diabetes who used Klinio for a minimum of 19 days over 2.5 months were twice as likely to reduce their absolute HbA1c value by 0.59 percent.
